1000 miles in 24 hours
Denver to Grand Lake, CO, the long way around!
The Colorado Classic 1000 is our signature long-distance riding event that challenges participants to complete a scenic 1000+ mile route within 24 hours. This event is sanctioned by the Iron Butt Association as an official SaddleSore 1000 endurance ride.
When and Where: The route opens at 5:00 AM, Saturday, June 21, at the Holiday Inn in Lakewood, Colorado, and closes 24 hours later, at5:00 AM, Sunday, June 22, at the Grand Lake Lodge in Grand Lake, Colorado. All qualified finishers will receive a commemorative award in recognition of their accomplishment and the opportunity to register with the Iron Butt Association for SaddleSore 1000 certification (additional fee applies).
This year’s route features over 900 miles of high country sweepers, curvy two-lane roads and scenic & historic byways, climbs mountain passes totaling nearly 140,000 vertical feet in elevation, and crosses the Continental Divide at five locations. As always, freeways are kept to a minimum, and there is no off-road riding. All entrants will receive a route booklet at check-in. GPS is not required to navigate the route, but you are welcome to use your GPS if you like. The Colorado Classic 1000 is a long-distance tour, not a race, and can be completed without exceeding posted speed limits. Participants are free to ride on their own or in a group of their choosing. All bikes are welcome, and BMWMCC club membership is not required.
Registration: Entry is by advance registration only. The entry fee is $49 ($60 after May 10th) and is non-refundable. Registration opens in November and is limited to 60 entries. Thank you to everyone who registered early – all spots for the 2014 Colorado Classic 1000 are now taken and no additional entries will be accepted. If you are interested in registering for the 2015 event, mark your calendar now for June 20-21, 2015 and watch the website for more details or send an e-mail to the Ride Leader to be notified once registration opens.
